Associations Band Together to Protect the Interests of Local Communities

Right now, local communities are faced with a real threat to their right to maintain well-established rules that make sure telecommunications companies adequately service them.

The truth is, locally elected government officials feel that the new FCC franchising rules, as well as current telecom tax legislation, virtually strips communities of their authority over the private use of public rights-of-way and telecom taxation.  

What is the Telecommunications Advocacy Coalition (TAC)?

Congressional representatives, local elected officials and consumers have been bombarded with conflicting messages about telecom reform. TAC's mission is to act as the voice of local governments

The Telecommunications Advocacy Coalition (TAC) is a non-partisan coalition of local government associations that believes in and supports a community’s right to hold telecommunications companies accountable for the way in which they conduct business in cities, towns and counties.

TAC Doesn’t Have The Resources Of The Big Telecoms

Right now, the big telecommunications companies are swaying votes with a deluge of TV commercials, newspaper and magazine ads, radio spots, “Astroturf” websites and tons of direct mail, all funded by what seems to be an equally endless war chest.

They’re getting their message out, but it’s just not the truth.

TAC Does Have The Truth

TAC’s purpose is to:

• Provide a fair, factual look at the issues surrounding the current telecom reform debate, and its impending negative impact on local governments and communities.
  
  
• Encourage and enable immediate action against currently proposed telecom tax reform.
  
  
• Support fair telecom reform so local governments have the control their communities need to take full advantage of this exciting new age of communication.
